Kalumbila Minerals limited Management has refuted claims by some displaced residents that the mining firm has not fully compensated the families.

Mining firm Kalumbila Minerals limited General Manager Sean Egner told journalists during a press briefing that the resettlement plan was done in accordance with the law and that all legal requirements were fully complied with contrary to the claims.

About 597 families were affected by the establishment of the mine in 2013 within two resettlements namely Northern resettlement and Shinengene according to the mine.

The mine further states that all the families entitled to compensation were fully compensated in accordance with the resettlement plan as signed by families and the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA).

The General Manager indicated that in as much as there could be concerns by some families, ZEMA should be addressed through appointed government agencies such as the institution itself and the District administration.

Settlers on Wednesday protested in Kalumbila claiming that no settlement was done by the mining firm the reason why they blocked the road leading to Kalumbila and mining area.

Police in riot gear moved in and calmed the situation.

Efforts to get a comment from both the District and Provincial Administration failed by Press time as Flava Fm News staffer Jackson Mapapayi indicated.
