EU ELECTION OBSERVER MISSION TO ASSIST IN IMPLEMENTING RECOMMENDATIONS

The European Union Election Observer Mission has presented the final report of its observation and analysis in the August 12 2021 general elections.
The report was presented yesterday in Lusaka.
And European Union Election Observer Mission Chief Observer Maria Arena said it was inspiring to witness a peaceful transition of power in Zambia following the announcement of the final Presidential results.
The European Union Election observer Mission has also made 22 recommendations in the report.
Some of the recommendations made are to repeal the Public Order Act and ensure there is adherence to regional and international standards for freedom of expression, assembly and movement.
To revise the candidacy requirements to enhance the right and opportunity by an individual to stand and enact a law on campaign finance including reporting requirements for political parties candidates, traditional and social Media among others.
The EU delegation to Zambia and COMESA led by Jacek Jankowski further indicated that it is ready to assist authorities and stakeholders with the implementation of the recommendations in the report.
