Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation Joe Kalusa says the new dawn Government will support water utility companies through the increase in budget allocation.

Speaking during a familiarization visit to Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company in Kitwe today, Mr Kalusa said the country had too many projects running in all sectors and that the situation posed challenges in financing all projects to the sectors.

He says with the population fast growing, much has not been done to improve the infrastructure saying there is need to catch up and improve on water and sanitation systems.

And Mr Kalusa disclosed that during last year`s revised budget allocation for the ministry, there was an increment of nine percent and that it was approved to ensure that there is improvement in the running of water and sanitation infrastructure.

He notes that the old infrastructure has been affected as a result of vandalism but was quick to mention that the law needs to be revised so that punitive measures on vandals can be actualized.

Meanwhile, Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company managing Director Diana Makwaba stated that the company’s vision is to achieve world class standards in the provision of quality water and sanitation though the company has been grappling with some challenges hence her call for funding towards phase two of the Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation project.
