ENERGY EXPERT CALLS FOR PATIENCE FROM UNIONS IN TRASNPORT SECTOR

Written by on January 7, 2022

Energy Expert Johnstone Chikwanda says there is need for patience by the National Union of Transport and Allied Workers (NUTAW) who have asked Government to expedite the restructuring process of Indeni Oil Refinery.

Mr. Chikwanda says the union should allow consultations and verification of information to run the company because Government has decided to change the business model, adding that the current shareholders believe the new business model will be better.

He says there is no need to rush Government but allow it to conclude expeditiously because it is not as simple as it seems.

He adds that Indeni and Tanzania-Zambia Mafuta (TAZAMA) pipelines are like Siamese twins and that if the business model changes or concluded from the Zambian side, it will also affect the business model for Tazama and that for the past one year; the two oil firms have not been fully operational.

And Mr. Chikwanda has disclosed that the challenges at TAZAMA are because the firm is jointly owned and that it is very difficult to impose solutions because the Zambian government has to engage the Tanzanian government by sharing the vision and how the new business model will benefit the country.
