Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company have asked government to consider providing funding towards the commencement of the second phase of its Water and Sanitation project.
Company Director Diana Makwaba says the company waits funding so that it can commence the second phase of the project.
She says the second phase will focus on replacing the sewer pipes that were installed way back and that they are currently in a deplorable state, a situation which is resulting in sewer overflow.
Ms Makwaba says despite having faced the challenges, the company has managed to replace water pipes in areas where there was no water supply.
She said this during her presentation to the Minister of Water Development Mike Mposha who was in Kitwe yesterday to appreciate how the company is delivering its services to the people.
Meanwhile, Ms Makwaba informed the Minister that the company is faced with high customer arrears in water Bills, old sewer network system, illegal connections and sewer overflow as a result of blocked sewer manholes and vandalism among others.
She further appealed to government to consider introducing a special electricity tariff for water Utility companies to enhance effective service delivery especially that the company services over 70, 395 customers.
