Mufumbwe residents stage protests to reject DC for the second time
Written by newsroom on December 28, 2021
Some residents in Mufumbwe yesterday protested against the appointment of Elijah Munyompe as district commissioner for that district and locked the office.
Mr Munyompe’s appointment followed the withdraw of Patrick Kalelemba as district commissioner for Mufumbwe by President Hakainde Hichilema last week.
The withdrawal of Mr Kalelemba’s appointment followed the protest by party structures in the district that Mr Kalelemba was not a UPND member.
And following the withdrawal of the appointment of Mr Kalelemba, President Hichilema appointed Mr Munyompe to replace him.
The move resulted into the other camp protesting against Mr Munyompe and locked the office but the protest was shortlived as Police moved in and thwarted the situation.
By 14 hours, the situation was calm and peace retained in the district and that Mr Munyompe will report for work according to North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Col Grandson Katambi.
Col. Katambi says it was unwise to go against the presidential appointment because it is only the President who has the powers to appoint and fire anyone and that no one can oppose.
