16 Mopani Copper Mines employees have been dismissed for participating in last week’s protests.

The miners staged a peaceful protest following the delay in payment of the second installment of their accrued benefits under Glencore.

This came to light at a Media Briefing held by Mine Union representatives at Katilungu house in Kitwe yesterday.

Mineworkers Union of Zambia MUZ, United Mineworkers Union of Zambia UMUZ and National Union of Miners and Allied Workers NUMAW were the three Unions present.

Speaking earlier, Mine Workers Union of Zambia President Joseph Chewe Mopani had put disciplinary actions against those who participated in the protests but Union leaders took a quick action by engaging management and hopes that no one will their job.

And speaking at the same briefing, National Union of Miners and Allied Workers NUMAW National Treasurer Saul Simunjika implored members to always trust Union leaders and that each time an issue arises they should not take the matter to the streets.
