KABWATA LAW MAKER DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY A VEHICLE AT HIS RESIDENCE

United Party for National Development UPND Lusaka’s Kabwata Constituency Member of Parliament Levy Mkandawire has died.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga who confirmed the development said the accident happened around 12:45 hours yesterday at plot number 34 along Chalata road Woodlands extension in Lusaka.

Involved was a Toyota IST registration number ALX 2038 driven by the late Levy Mkandawire 60, who sustained head injuries, fractured right leg and died on the way to the University Teaching Hospital.

This was after a BMW X5 registration number ALM 5955 driven by Jane Mwale 39 of plot number 32 Chalata road Woodlands extension who was approaching from the East towards West moving at an excessive speed and in the process lost control before hitting into the late Mr Mkandawire’s stationary vehicle who had disembarked with a view of opening the gate.

On board the BMW, was the husband to the driver Kalengo Jetta 57 who Police say complained of headache as the driver was not found on the scene when Police Officers arrived and that the car she was driving had its front part extensively damaged.

Due to the impact, the late Mkandawire was forced to move forward thereby squeezing him against the wall fence resulting in the wall pillar of the gate to fell on him.

Investigations to establish the whereabouts of the driver have been instituted.
