SEPA HAILS GOVERNMENT FOR HALTING MINING ACTIVITIES AT KASENSELI GOLD MINE

Save Environment and People Agency SEPA has hailed government for its decision to halt mining activities at Mwinilunga’s Kasenseli gold mine.
SEPA Chief Executive Officer Mailesi Zulu has told Flava Fm News that the move should be commended especially that many bad activities out of mining started taking place.
Ms Zulu says had it not been for government through the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development, people’s lives at the mine would have been in danger stressing that it is the duty of every Zambian citizen to ensure that they take keen interest in environmental management through the promotion of safety and gender as they conduct mining activities.
She has also called on government to come up with procedures regarding small scale mining activities adding that what is has been happening is not health for a health nation.
Illicit activities that were reported at Kasenseli gold mine in Mwinilunga where there was an increase in cases of sexually transmitted infections due to lack of order in operations, should not continue hence her call for sanity, Zulu said.
Meanwhile, the SEPA Chief Executive officer has further observed the need for all organizations championing green environment, saying doing so will enable many people to benefit from the country’s natural resources as opposed to working is silos.
