The UPND says it has not received any formal invitation to attend the official funeral of the first republican president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.
During his address to the nation yesterday, President Lungu announced that attendance to today’s Dr. Kaunda’s state funeral is strictly by invitation.
But in a press statement obtained by Flava Fm news, UPND Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Bwalya states Dr. Kaunda was unifier who knew how to put the country and the people above self and the temptations of partisan politics adding the party’s understanding and expectations were that Zambians from all walks of life and from across the whole of the political divide, were going to be given the opportunity to be represented in paying final homage and tribute to the man who sacrificed and gave his all for the country we all call home.
And the UPND says the endearing memory of Dr. Kaunda live long in the hearts and minds of all peace and unity loving Zambians and that the party shall always remember and treasure the sacrifice and dutifulness with which Dr. Kaunda served the country and her peoples.b
Meanwhile, according to information obtained from the Patriotic Front Facebook page, Government has confirmed that all political leaders were invited to the national event as is always the custom.
And Government has dismissed assertions that Opposition leader, Hakainde Hichilema was not invited.
