A Business Executive in Kitwe District, has called for concerted effort to end the influx of street children in the District.
Ashani Jaya, says it’s sad to see the number of street children increasing and no long term solution is implemented to end the trend.
Ms. Jaya says more needs to be done, in order to address the root cause adding an aggressive programme of action needs to be put in place in order to end the recurrence of streetism on the Copperbelt Province and Zambia as a whole.
Ms . Jaya notes a multi sectoral approach designed to rehabilitate street children needs to be effected so as to transform their lives permanently.
She adds another program of action that is required is to empower the guardians of the children that are coming from impoverished homes.
She has further attributed the problem to breakdown in social order.
