FODEP advises the church not to endorse candidates ahead of August polls

Forum for Democratic Process FODEP says it is not right for church leaders to suggest and impose candidates on congregants.
FODEP Executive Director George Chimembe has told Flava FM news that church leaders, like traditional leaders are supposed be non partisan and are expected to be neutral as they lead their flock who belong to different political parties.
He says the issue of voting and party inclination is solely up to an individual and asking people to rally behind a particular candidate amounts to vote buying.
And Mr. Chimembe says the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Act of 2016 only permits ECZ to take action during the campaign period saying outside that, ECZ does not have the jurisdiction to do anything but may come in to advise and not instruct political players or stakeholders.
