The Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative Zambia has commended President Edgar Lungu for not complaining against the booing that happened in Monze.
GEARS Initiative Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi says the gesture by the Head of State is a signal that freedom of expression by citizens regardless of their location and political affiliation is welcome.
Mr. Chipenzi reveals that the President did not get offended by the booing that happened in Monze against him and one wonders what has incensed some high ranking Patriotic Front officials for them to start demonizing the freedom of others.
He points out that as a person who has been in politics for long and championed media freedoms; President Lungu understands better that booing is part and parcel of freedom of expression, particularly dissatisfaction against an elected leader by people.
GEARS notes that those declaring No Go Areas against their fellow citizens are going against the Constitution Article 22(1) which empowers all citizens of this nation freedom of movement and has since called on the Police to nab those breaching the constitution before it is too late.
