Police in Kitwe have denied the Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) to go ahead with a planned Card Renewal Exercise at Changanamai grounds that was scheduled for November, 2nd.
UPND Copperbelt Chairperson Elisha Matambo has confirmed the development in an interview stating that the party will however proceed with some of the activities lined up.
Mr Matambo says the card renewal exercise was supposed to be addressed by Party President Hakainde Hichilema who is as well expected to make some mealie meal donations as well as attend a church service.
And according to a response to the UPND, Riverside Police Station Office in Charge Lubinda Sikakena has stated that police will not have enough manpower to police the activity.
Mr Sikakena has in the letter indicated that most police officers will be engaged in other national duties on the same day further advising the UPND not to go ahead with the rally.
