The Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors have unearthed a scam in which Lumwana Mine is allegedly using a Mauritius/Dubai registered company to supply them goods including stationery at the expense of Zambian Companies.
Association President Augustine Mubanga has alleged that Lumwana Mine has been using Trade Corp, a Company that is registered in Dubai and Mauritius to deny Zambian companies to bid for works at the Mining firm.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kitwe, Mr Mubanga has noted that the move is a violation of the Mines and Mineral Development Act which talks about giving preferential to Zambian companies.
Mr Mubanga has further alleged that the named Company has an office in South Africa and is being used by Lumwana Mine to get all works further adding that Zambian contractors doing business with Lumwana could slightly be below 5%.
He has called on government to immediately intervene in the matter and allow for equal participation of local contractors and suppliers in the Mining sector.
But when contacted, Lumwana Mine Executive Director Nathan Chishimba said the allegations are strange to him stating that the Mining firm has a committed local contractor development programme.
Mr Chishimba however could not state whether Lumwana is working with the said Trade Corp Company or not.
