Nkana Water and Sanitation Company Limited have started engaging Zesco to minimize load shedding on water supply installations to help improve supply to different areas under its area of operation.
Company Public Relations Manager Bivan Saluseki has told Flava Fm News that the engagements are to help ensure provision of water in Ndeke Township, an area that has faced challenges in accessing the commodity.
Mr Saluseki said Zesco has agreed to supply power from 06:00hrs to 18hrs and vice versa after a week at the Ndeke Distribution centre.
He added that Zesco however indicated that the Ndeke distribution centre is connected to the township grid adding that it would not be feasible to be put on a dedicated line.
Meanwhile, Mr Saluseki has disclosed that the water utility has reviewed the directive by Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe to sink 10 boreholes in Ndeke Township.
He has stated that the life cycle and running costs of sinking 10 boreholes is not sustainable adding that Nkana water will instead embark on network rehabilitation especially that the area has also been captured under the Nkana Water and Sanitation Project.
