The Democratic Party is saddened on the loss of jobs at Mopani Copper Mines following the closure of two none economical shafts at Central and Mindola.
Party Leader Harry Kalaba has described as unacceptable the continued loss of jobs in the mining sector especially at such a time when the nation is experiencing economic hardships.
He says it is more disappointing to note that the loss of jobs comes after Mines Minister Richard Musukwa assured workers in a meeting that their jobs were secure.
Mr Kalaba is disappointed that the Patriotic Front has adopted a system of allowing the opposite of what they preach to happen especially which borders on the lives of Zambians.
He has charged that the government has been holding dark corner meetings with the mines where decisions made are given to them but go the public to say the opposite.
On Wednesday Mopani Copper Mine PLC confirmed that the mining firm was not renewing all contracts for development support services at Mindola North and Central Shafts in Kitwe.
