The Kitwe City Council has seized 34 Mobile Money Booths in the Central Business District placed without permits and compromising sanitary conditions.
34 Mobile Booths were seized on Monday night during an operation by a combined team of Kitwe City Council Department of Public Health and the Council Police.
Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Lida Kamanga said the mobile money booths were found in poor hygienic conditions contrary to the Public Health Act CAP 295 section 67 and Statutory Instrument 12 of 2018.
Ms Kamanga said Council Police Officers and Public Health officers discovered that some booths were being used to answer the call of nature in the night by unknown people.
She said in line with the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Health Campaign, it is a requirement that booth operators uphold high standards of cleanliness.
Ms Kamanga has since warned mobile telecommunication companies operating mobile money booths to ensure they are used for intended purposes.
