COPPERBELT-BASED musician, Frank Chirwa otherwise known as Afunika (his middle name) has paid tribute to his fans for standing by him throughout his music career.
He came on the music scene with his Malinso Malinso song, which was an instant hit. Since then the soft-spoken musician has enjoyed some unrivaled success in the music industry and he “owes” it all to the “faithful” fans.
“I am really humbled with the support that the fans are giving me. From all over the country, I have fans that have always been there for me and followed my music ardently. Without them, I wouldn’t have been where I am today,” he told the Weekend Mail in an interview.
From the days of Malinso Malinso in 2009, which practically signaled his arrival on the music scene, the artiste had gone further to release a number of hits such as Kakonkote, Darling and now his latest album, Wounded Buffalo, which is terrorising the airwaves.
Just like the album title itself, Afunika is indeed a wounded buffalo as his career has reached a peak.
“Like the other day when I was performing at Marilyn in Lusaka, did you see the crowd that turned out? The people were so happy and it just felt great performing for them because really, I owe my music success to them,” he said.
Knowing how hard it is for an up-coming artiste to make it in the industry, Afunika is also supporting Kanawa, an upcoming artiste from the Copperbelt.
“When I came through the music industry, I was working closely with my friend Chiko Wise and now that he is also enjoying some success, I am now trying to promote Kanawa because I know how hard it is to break through in the music industry, especially here in Zambia,” he said.
